Preconference I: Medicare Drug Benefit Primer

What policies define the market for the Medicare drug benefit? How do plans vary in their interpretation of those policies? What are the most common benefit designs, formularies, and utilization management tools? How do plans grant formulary exceptions and appeals, design medication therapy management programs, and measure quality of pharmacy care?
In this session, senior members of Avalere Health will describe key features of CMS drug benefit policies and discuss Avalere's latest research on these important questions.

Preconference II: Medicare Reimbursement: Translating Theory Into Practice

Experts from Avalere Health and industry will present the fundamentals of Medicare reimbursement, with case study presentations and discussion focused on key issues relating to successful product commercialization. Topics for discussion include how payer coverage decisions can influence market success of a product, why coding is critically important for seamless claims payment, and why knowledge of the differences in payment mechanisms by setting of care can shift practice patterns and product utilization. Lastly, the course will review how implementation of Medicare Part D has significantly altered some of these key reimbursement dynamics, particularly around drug payment and administration.
